Are You Suffering from Neck Pain?
The more you know about neck pain causes the better off you will be.
Believe it or not, most people suffer from neck pain causes at some
point in their life. Yours may be more serious than others, or maybe it
is just a minor tweak. But no matter what, if you know what this is all
about and how to address the problem you will be better off. This is one
of those potential health concerns that you want to know a lot about
even if you are not suffering.
So what neck pain causes are most common? It is hard to say what
cause is the most common of them all, but many believe that it is muscle
strains. If you pull a muscle in your neck or back it can lead to a lot
of pain in the area. In fact, the pain can be so bad that it may make
you wonder if you didn't hurt yourself in another way.
Of course, there are more serious issues that can come up over time.
For instance, a herniated disk can lead to a lot of pain and eventually
cause problems in other areas as well. This is something that needs
treated by an experienced doctor, and may even call for surgery
depending on how bad your situation is.
Finally, another one of the most common neck pain causes is injury.
This can include anything from a car accident to falling down. Landing
on your neck the wrong way or being suddenly hit without notice can lead
to injury to the neck and back.
If you are suffering from neck pain it is important to receive a
proper diagnosis. Even if you think you know what the problem is you
should see your doctor just to make sure. Neck pain is not something
that you want to take lightly as minor problems can linger and get worse
over time.
Now that you know more about neck pain causes you are in better
position to handle this problem should you begin to suffer.

Question: I have really bad neck pains, anyway to get rid of it or make it at least a little bit better?

Around 1:00 PM I was just walking around then BAM! My neck felt like a animal took a bite out of it. Right now at 6:30 PM it feels no better, I tried Aspirin, to no affect, Neck exercises, I tried 10 different techniques 9 had very , very little to no affect and the tenth made it hurt more. When I try to keep my next completely straight up, I nearly cry. Any suggestions to get it better? |

You basically need a chiropractor to make the pain go away - I'd get to one ASAP, but in the meantime, Advil (600mg) and a muscle relaxant can help. Over the counter muscle relaxants include: Percogesic original, Benadryl, and Mucinex. (Yes, all three of those are used off-label as muscle relaxants when prescriptions aren't available or desired). If this just happened, try ice packs on the back of your neck. Lie down on your back and place the ice pack under your neck. It may hurt, but this is the best way to get the neck to relax and straighten out a bit. You'll know within about 5-10 minutes if the ice is working - if it is, stick with it for several days - 20 min. on, 20 min. off. If it's not, switch to moist heat. Put a hot water bottle under your neck, use a "moist heat " pack from the drugstore, or use a very hot washcloth. Don't use dry heat (electric heating pads, heat packs that don't say "moist " heat, or ThermaCare patches). Topical creams can sometimes help as well, such as icy hot - but they're generally not to be used with heat or ice. If you can find an over the counter neck brace at the pharmacy, that's always a HUGE help as well. Alcohol generally relieves muscle contraction initially, then makes it much worse later on. I always avoid it when my neck goes out!! When the vertabrae in your neck pop out of place, the result is excruciating pain, muscle contraction, occasionally swelling, and inability to move your neck fully in a certain direction. A nasty headache usually develops as well. Mine goes out every so often, so severely that I actually have heavy prescription narcotics and muscle relaxers to deal with it when it happens, but the only thing that relieves it 100% is the chiropractor. |

You got a kink in your neck. You will need a muscle relaxant/ anti-inflammatory to dull the intense jolting pain. Aspirin is only an anti-inflammatory. Muscle relaxants come in 3 forms, prescription, alcohol, or marijuana. Pick your poison. :) |
