Are You Suffering from Neck Pain?
The more you know about neck pain causes the better off you will be.
Believe it or not, most people suffer from neck pain causes at some
point in their life. Yours may be more serious than others, or maybe it
is just a minor tweak. But no matter what, if you know what this is all

of those potential health concerns that you want to know a lot about
even if you are not suffering.
So what neck pain causes are most common? It is hard to say what
cause is the most common of them all, but many believe that it is muscle
strains. If you pull a muscle in your neck or back it can lead to a lot
of pain in the area. In fact, the pain can be so bad that it may make
you wonder if you didn't hurt yourself in another way.
Of course, there are more serious issues that can come up over time.
For instance, a herniated disk can lead to a lot of pain and eventually
cause problems in other areas as well. This is something that needs
treated by an experienced doctor, and may even call for surgery
depending on how bad your situation is.
Finally, another one of the most common neck pain causes is injury.
This can include anything from a car accident to falling down. Landing
on your neck the wrong way or being suddenly hit without notice can lead
to injury to the neck and back.
If you are suffering from neck pain it is important to receive a
proper diagnosis. Even if you think you know what the problem is you
should see your doctor just to make sure. Neck pain is not something
that you want to take lightly as minor problems can linger and get worse
over time.
Now that you know more about neck pain causes you are in better
position to handle this problem should you begin to suffer.

My neck hurts extremely bad this morning.. everytime I turn it to the left I have a sharp pain shoot through my whole neck/ left shoulder are. I posted another question about this on her and only go 3 answers.. and one else want to suggest anything? I'm trying to decide wether to go to the doctor, chiropractor, or a massage therapist.. I have health insurance, but still dont want to go to the "wrong " one first.. please help |

With only that for a symptom, I would massage the area, take a couple of ibuprofen and don't my head to the left. Seriously. About an hour after you take the ibuprofen, do some gently movements and stretches to loosen the area. Apply heat and see if that makes it feel better. If not, go with ice. Most minor things like that resolve themselves without medical intervention. Now if you have other symptoms, that would give you a clue. Just the pain in your neck, I would wait a day or 2 and see if it improves with ice packs, massage and pain reliever. I am a firm believer in taking the wait and see approach. The old "take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning " is solid advice as many things resolve themselves with time and there is no need for medical intervention. |

As a medical doctor, I actually agree completely with what ckngbbbs said. This is clearly muscular...heat, stretch, massage, ibuprofen are all that is indicated. You don't need to see a doctor or physio. NEVER let a chiro near your neck. It will fix itself in a few days |

If the pain doesn't go away in 24-48 hours, ask your family doctor for a referral to a chiropractor that they are comfortable with, ie, one that sends them reports. Cervical manipulation, when done properly, is as safe as taking the aspirin. When it is done by a nut...not so much. Your family doctor will know, at least by reputation, who in your area isn't a nut. Good Luck. Treatment for this condition should NOT involve x-rays or long term treatment to correct "curves " or subluxations. It should go visit to visit untill the symptoms resolve. |

Having had problems like that many times (I don't have the best sleeping posture!) I've had the best results with a therapist who uses neuromuscular therapy (essentially pressure point massage_ on it. She's actually also a trained chiropractor and physio amongst other things and the first thing she said to me was that she wouldn't go near my neck with a chiropractic technique given the symptoms. The best thing to do is visit someone, talk to them thoroughly about the pain and have them explain what they think might help. If it sounds suspicious or you're not comfortable with their explanation - get a second opinion. Also, I agree with the first two answerers who said give it some time, often this sort of pain clears itself up within a day or two. Good luck! |

This can happen to any of us. If you can find a place around your shoulder/ neck that is very painful if you press it, and the muscle there is harder than other places, such as your arm's, it is very likely that you have a muscle pulled (while sleeping). Massage, heat therapy, pain medication, and time will work in your favor. Like others have said, if you feel other things are also wrong, check with your doctor. I'm biased but I would say a non US trained osteopath. Approximately 95% of US trained Osteo's disappear into medicine and practice little or no manual therapy. You may be Lucky and find one of the few who do. |
