Are You Suffering from Neck Pain?

The more you know about neck pain causes the better off you will be. Believe it or not, most people suffer from neck pain causes at some point in their life. Yours may be more serious than others, or maybe it is just a minor tweak. But no matter what, if you know what this is all about and how to address the problem you will be better off. This is one of those potential health concerns that you want to know a lot about even if you are not suffering.

So what neck pain causes are most common? It is hard to say what cause is the most common of them all, but many believe that it is muscle strains. If you pull a muscle in your neck or back it can lead to a lot of pain in the area. In fact, the pain can be so bad that it may make you wonder if you didn't hurt yourself in another way.

Of course, there are more serious issues that can come up over time. For instance, a herniated disk can lead to a lot of pain and eventually cause problems in other areas as well. This is something that needs treated by an experienced doctor, and may even call for surgery depending on how bad your situation is.

Finally, another one of the most common neck pain causes is injury. This can include anything from a car accident to falling down. Landing on your neck the wrong way or being suddenly hit without notice can lead to injury to the neck and back.

If you are suffering from neck pain it is important to receive a proper diagnosis. Even if you think you know what the problem is you should see your doctor just to make sure. Neck pain is not something that you want to take lightly as minor problems can linger and get worse over time.

Now that you know more about neck pain causes you are in better position to handle this problem should you begin to suffer.

Advice on chronic neck pain please ?

Question: Advice on chronic neck pain please ?

(Posted by: jordanmik on 2010-01-23 06:04:07)

Hi there, I have been suffering from chronic neck pain for around 3 years. It feels very stiff and the muscles are tender , I cannot move my head as though to touch my shoulder at all and it cracks when I turn it around 20 + times a day. I am becoming increasingly worried as it appears to be getting more painful. Whenever I crack my neck it seems to give me a tiny bit of relief for about 5 mins. I am not one to visit the doctor for something unnecessary so any advice would be much appreciated , Thanks.

Most headaches and neck pain are due to the shoulder blades sitting too low on the trunk. There are muscles attaching from the shoulder blade directly to the first four neck vertebrae and skull. When the shoulders sit too low, these muscles then pull on the neck bones and skull causing neck pain and headaches. Here's a quick, simple test to see if this is the case with you. If you're having right-sided neck pain or headaches, raise your right hand and place it flat on top of your head for 20 seconds. Make sure your head doesn't side-bend or rotate to achieve this. If your pain diminished after this test, then your scapula may be sitting too low causing your discomfort. This is easily correctable. This is also the culprit in diagnoses such as thoracic outlet syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. If you're interested, I wrote a book about this called, Fixing You: Neck Pain & Headaches (FixingYou.net). Good luck!

Is your position on doctors inclusinve of chiropractors. I am a patient of one, and know the physical, non invasive, drug free treatments help. I think, specifcally based on you saying it cracks, you would find chiropractic treatment would help. I'm not sure if they would help as much if any, but some people benefit from the heated neck wraps. But I think your help from that would be limited until the positioning errors in your neck creating thecracking sounds are corrected.

3 years of pain requires a doctor visit. pain is no fun, it is a warning sign and disabling. please get a diagnosis and treatment. does a a heating pad gives relief? -if so, try that for 20 minutes. maybe a cold gel pack or towel-wrapped ziploc bag of ice helps. do you get relief if you lie on your bed and let your head hang over the edge? if cervical traction gives you relief as it does me, there are over the door home traction units, see ebay. try an inversion chair or table if a friend has one. if you get relief from hanging upside down, be sure to note this for your doctor. is your mattress actually comfortable? is your bed pillow too big and not allowing your spine to lie down at night? are you falling asleep with the tv running? [set the sleep timer!] is there a cold draft on your neck where you sleep? are you sleeping on the couch or an uncomfortable futon for the last 3 years? are you getting enough sleep? treat the joint manipulation with a chiropractic neck cracking. if there are pinched nerves involved, acupuncture doctors can give relief.
